get out your calendars...foodie events this week & next

Get ready for a whirlwind of food events and exhibits launching this week and next.  here's just a handful to get you going...


MoMA Counter Space: Design & the Modern Kitchen :: Wednesday, Sept. 15th - March 14th. 2011  | Modern Museum of Art | cost of admission
This new art and culture exhibit explores the transformation of the 20th century kitchen and highlights the iconic "Frankfurt Kitchen," designed in 1926-7 by architect Grete Schutte-Lihotzky.  The exhibit displays the shift from kitchens that were previously built in a basement or annex to becoming a symbol of modern thinking in the domestic sphere and a testing ground for new materials, technologies and power sources.  The exhibit further explores kitchens and how they are connected to our relationship to the food we eat, family life, attitudes towards the role of women, consumerism and political ideology in the post-war world.  

Good Food Festival ::  Sunday, Sept. 19th | Gansevoort Plaza, Meatpacking district | all day event
Basis Foods and the FEED Foundation co-host the first annual Back to Basis Good Food Festival in honor of the season's harvest.  Over 30 local farmers and chefs will feature food during the day and a seasonal farm-to-table dinner will be held in the evening.  Among the participcants, Siggi's yogurt, Battenkill Farms Creamery, BlueBottle Coffee Co., The Farm on Adderley, Colicchio & Sons, Sprout Creek Farm




Taste the West Village :: Sunday, Sept. 19th | PS. 41 | $30 - $85 per ticket
Help support PS 41's green rooftop program along with dozens of the West Village's best restaurants and chefs.  Participants include Choptank, Braeburn, August, Yerba Buena and many more.


Harvest in the Square :: Tuesday, Sept. 21st | Union Square Park | 7:30-9pm | $125 per ticket
join chefs from restaurants around Union Square as they present dishes using farm fresh produce from the Union Square greenmarket.  Microbrews and wines from New York state will be paired with each dish.  All proceeds from the benefit go to the beautification of Union Square Park.
